A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA
AUTHORIZING CIVILIAN VOLUNTEERS AND EXPLORERS
OF THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT TO DIRECT TRAFFIC
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of California Vehicle Code §21100(e), the City
Ccu.,cil may, Lj re:�olution, authorize any person given temporary or permanent
appointment to regulate traffic under such circumstances where official traffic control
devices are disabled or otherwise inoperable at the scenes of accidents or disasters, or at
such locations as may require traffic direction for orderly traffic flow; and
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department enhances their many law
enforcement and public safety activities by routinely utilizing civilian volunteers and
explorers in a traffic control capacity at community events, accident scenes, and tactical
situations, and
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department has an existing approved
training curriculum which all civilian volunteers are required to complete prior to
undertaking traffic control duty; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to receive the traffic control services of civilian volunteers and
explorers of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department in those circumstances described
herein.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA does
hereby authorize civilian volunteers and explorers of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs
Department when in uniform and under the direction of the Sheriffs Department, and after
completion of its approved training curriculum to direct traffic within the City of Santa
Clarita whenever traffic control devices are disabled or inoperable, at the scene of
accidents, disasters, or tactical situations, and at other locations requiring direction and
control for orderly traffic flow:
