S2001, AND VIA PRINCESSA METROLINK IMPROVEMENTS, PROJECT NO. T3007 — PROJECT ACCEPTANCE DEPARTMENT: Transportation and Engineering Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council accept the work performed by Terra -Cal Construction, Inc. for the Jan Heidt Metrolink Station in Newhall, Project No. S2001, and Via Princessa Metrolink Station Improvements, Project No. T3007; direct the City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion; and direct staff to release the 10 percent retention 35 days after the Notice of Completion is recorded, provided no stop notices, as provided by law, have been filed. BACKGROUND On May 11, 1999, City Council awarded the construction contract to Terra -Cal Construction, Inc. for both the Via Princessa Metrolink Station Improvements and Jan Heidt Metrolink Station in Newhall projects. Construction in the Canyon Country area consisted of adding improvements to the existing station at Via Princessa and Weyerhaeuser Way. These improvements included canopies on the station platform and over the ticket machines to provide protection for the riders from sun, wind, and rain. Also, trees and shrubs were added to the parking lot and platform areas to provide shade while improving the look of the station. Construction in the Newhall area consisted of building a new Metrolink station, complete with five canopies, including a handicapped access ramp, mini -plaza, public restrooms, security guard room, bell and clock tower, and three parking lot areas. On November 30, 1999, the City Council approved additional funding to build a second platform in anticipation of the second track the railroad will construct in the near future. These projects were completed to the satisfaction of the City Engineer on May 11, 2000. The projects were completed on time and within budget. FISCAL IMPACT The contract award was for $2,656,864.44 plus a 15 percent contingency of $398,529.67; and the subsequent approval for the second platform was $250,000.00, for a total contract budget of $3,305,394.11. The total construction cost was $3,140,315.01, leaving a remaining balance of $165,079.10.
