SUBJECT: ORDINANCE GOVERNING PARKING REQUIREMENTS FOR
SPEED DISPLAY TRAILER (PARET) UNIT — AMENDMENT TO
SECTION 12.64.100 OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA MUNICIPAL
CODE

Introduce an ordinance amending Section 12.64.100 of the City of Santa Clarita Municipal
Code, thereby allowing the Speed Display Trailer (PARET) unit to be exempt from the
requirements of said Section, waive further reading, and pass to second reading.
Traffic Engineering staff receives numerous speeding complaints on various City streets.
Staff frequently utilizes a speed display trailer (PARET) unit on various streets, which
informs motorists of the speed at which they are traveling. The PARET unit is an effective
educational tool that reminds motorists to monitor their speed in accordance with the speed
limit and helps reduce speeding on City streets.
The PARET unit is a detached trailer and is usually placed on the shoulder area of a street
next to the curb. As per Section 12.64.100 of the City of Santa Clarita Municipal Code, no
detached trailers are allowed on public streets.
In order to legally continue using the PARET unit on City streets, staff recommends that
Section 12.64.100 of the Municipal Code be modified so that the PARET unit is exempt from
this requirement. Staff recommends that the following statement be added to
Section 12.64.100 of the Municipal Code:
C. This section shall not apply to the speed display trailer (PARET) units placed on public
roadways by the City of Santa Clarita or the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on November 14, 2000, the City Council of the City of Santa
Clarita introduced an Ordinance entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTION 12.64.100 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE,
REGARDING PARKING OF TRAILERS OR SEMI -TRAILERS ON PUBLIC
ROADWAYS
A certified copy of the complete text of the ordinance is posted and may be read in the City
Clerk's Office, 23920 Valencia Boulevard, Suite 301, Santa Clarita, and/or a copy may be
obtained from that office.
