BUSES
DEPARTMENT: Transportation & Engineering Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council appropriate $5,966,000 to Account No. 4600-8610 for the purchase of 22 transit buses.
BACKGROUND
On January 11, 2000, the City Council authorized the City Manager to negotiate and execute a
contract with the Gillig Corporation for the manufacture of 22 buses. A significant issue for
negotiation is delivery dates. At this time, the Gillig Corporation can, upon receipt of a purchase
order, begin production of these buses as early as June 19, 2000. The recommended action will
permit the issuance of the purchase order.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
The City currently has $4.8 million in federal funds programmed in the Transportation Improvement
Plan (TIP) to cover 80 percent of the cost of these buses. There is currently $1,166,000 available
in the reserve to cover the City's required 20 percent match. The revenue portion of the grant has
already been budgeted.
