BACKGROUND The Sand Canyon backbone trail system consists of several distinct segments of trails. These trail segments include north and south alignments to the west of Sand Canyon Road, adjacent to Sand Canyon Road, and to the east of Sand Canyon Road along the U.S. Forest Service boundary. The first portion of trail to be completed is the eastern alignment as part of the Robinson Ranch Development. The Parks and Recreation Commission, at their October 5, 2000 meeting, unanimously approved the trail name "Robinson Ranch Trail" for this section of trail. The naming of the trail also has the support of the Sand Canyon Homeowner's Association and the Sand Canyon Trails Committee. The trail is the result of a cooperative effort between the City, the County of Los Angeles, the Robinson Ranch development, the Sand Canyon Community, and the U.S. Forest Service. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for November 9, 2000, for this recently completed trail. The ceremony will celebrate the opening of the trail, recognize the agencies and community members involved in making the trail a reality, and commemorate this trail as part of the City's Trails Day 2000 event in cooperation with the California Trails and Greenways Foundation. ALTERNATIVE ACTION Decline the Parks and Recreation Commission's recommendation. Other action as determined by the Commission.
