HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-01-25 - AGENDA REPORTS - CANVASS ELECTION (2)CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: S4aron Dawson CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: January 25, 2000 SUBJECT: CANVASS OF APRIL 11, 2000 GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION DEPARTMENT: City Manager RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council adopt resolution ordering the canvass of the General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2000 to be made by the City Clerk. BACKGROUND Elections Code Section 10263 states that the governing body (City Council) may, by resolution, order the canvass to be made by the elections official (City Clerk) prior to the second Tuesday after the election. Upon completion of the canvass, the elections official shall certify the results to the governing body who shall on the second Tuesday after the election pass a resolution reciting the fact of the election. The canvass is made by verifying that the elections officer has correctly accounted for all ballots received from the Clerk, issued to the voter, returned for counting by the voter and returned to the clerk as spoiled, canceled and unused. One precinct is also to be counted by hand tally, to verify the computer count. A resolution ordering the canvass to be made by the Clerk has been prepared for Council consideration and adoption. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS If the resolution is not adopted, the City Council would canvass the election returns. FISCAL IMPACT None by this action. ATTACHMENTS Resolution Adopted: Ageonda
