Item to be presented by: Wayne Weber
SUBJECT: CENTRAL PARK PHASE II -- PROJECT NO. P4005
CONTRACT AWARD FOR DESIGN SERVICES
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council approve and authorize the City Manager to execute a contract with RJM
Design Group, Inc., subject to City Attorney approval for an amount not to exceed $145,675
and a ten- percent contingency expenditure. The funds have been budgeted in Fiscal Year
2000-2001 in Account Number P4005.
Phase I of Central Park included 40 acres and was completed and opened to the public on
February 22, 2000. The park included four softball fields, four sports fields, and amenities
and infrastructure to support the site. During the 200012001, budget process, City Council
approved the construction of four additional sports fields, an additional restroom, and
parking for approximately 200 more vehicles.
Two of the four fields will be designed in the exhibition stadium location identified in the
Master Plan. At such time, as the stadium area is funded, one of these fields may need to
be removed or relocated to accommodate parking. The construction of Phase II is consistent
with the Central Park Master Plan developed by the community. The current budget for
this phase does not include lighting the additional sport fields.
The Phase II design is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2001. It is anticipated
that Proposition 12 State Bond funds will be available by the summer of 2001 to support
the construction of this phase.
The City has completed the qualification process for a consultant to design and provide
construction documents for Central Park. Based on their experience with this type of
project, RJM Design Group, Inc. was selected.
ALTERNATIVE
City Council not award design contract at this time.
Other action as determined by Council.
