BACKGROUND On July 31, 2000, the terms of Planning Commissioners Ralph Killmeyer and Darla Hoback and Parks and Recreation Commissioners Maria Fulkerson and Henry Schultz will expire. Pursuant to procedures adopted by the City Council, below is a preliminary schedule to complete the appointment process: May 23 Council declares vacancies (regular Council meeting) May 24 City Clerk posts and publishes Notice of Vacancy per Government Code 54974. Prospective candidates may pick up applications in the City Clerk's Office. (publish notice twice and post in the Clerk's Office, the Libraries, and the Sheriffs Office) May 24 -June 15 City Clerk receives applications June 16 -July 11 Councilmembers Kellar and Smyth review applications July 11 Councilmembers Kellar and Smyth submit nominations for ratification by the City Council (regular Council meeting) The City Clerk administers the oath of office to the Commissioners at the first regular meeting of the Commissions in August, 2000. Qualifications: Each of the five (5) Commissioners shall be a resident of the City and shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the City Council. THIS NOTICE SHALL REMAIN POSTED UNTIL SUPERSEDED - 12/99 CITY OF SANTA CLARITA NOTICE OF COMMISSION VACANCY NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Santa Clarita encourages residents to apply for a position on the Planning Commission OR a position on the Parks & Recreation Commission. Two terms of office on each Commission expire on July 31, 2000; the new terms will expire on July 31, 2004. Applicants must also submit three letters of recommendation with their application. Applicants must be 18 years or older and must maintain their principal residence in the City of Santa Clarita during their term of office. Residents may obtain applications or further information from the City Clerk's Office or by calling 661-255-4391.
