SUBJECT: COMMUNITY SERVICES GRANT PROGRAM
BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR
FISCAL YEAR 1999/2000.
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council approve Community Services Grant Committee's fiscal year 1999/2000
Beautification Recommendation List in an amount not to exceed $22,500. Direct staff to
execute agreements with individuals approved for funding. Approved projects have been
budgeted in fiscal year 1999-2000 budget in account #7413-8110.
BACKGROUND
As part of the fiscal year 1999/2000 City budget, City Council approved the Community
Services Grant Program in the amount of $150,000. To date, a total of $94,000 in grant funds
has been awarded to community-based organizations for the Arts and Family Violence
Prevention. The Community Services Grant Committee has earmarked a total of $30, 000 for
community and commercial business beautification projects and $20,000 for a bike and
pedestrian safety program. The safety program is anticipated to begin in June 2000; leaving
an approximate balance of $13,500 for additional beautification projects.
The City received eleven (11) beautification project proposals totaling $27,447 for grant award
consideration. On April 21, 2000, the Community Services Grant Committee met to evaluate
the proposals based on the publicized application criteria. The Community Services Grant
Committee consisted of Jo Anne Darcy, Janice H. Heidt, George A. Caravalho, Barbara Boswell,
Ken Striplin, and Adele Macpherson.
The Committee is recommending a total not to exceed $22,500 in grant funds to be awarded
(Attachment A). The community and commercial business beautification projects will be
funded through account #7413-8110.

FISCAL IMPACT
The fiscal impact is not to exceed $22,500. Funds are budgeted in account #7413-8110 for fiscal
year 1999/2000.
