BACKGROUND
The City's Building and Safety Division uses contractual services for plan review and
inspection of new buildings. Contractual support for plan check and inspection is intended
to supplement staff's effort to respond to increased demand for these services. This need
has resulted from a significant increase in construction activity during the current fiscal
year. This service need was anticipated and addressed in the current budget (FY 99-00).
The request is for City Council authorization for use of funding currently available in the
Division's budget for FY 99-00. The proposed allocation is for firms providing services
exceeding $50,000.
