HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-04-25 - AGENDA REPORTS - HUD CDBG GRANT AWARDS (2)CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT April 25, 2000 City Manager Item to be presented by SUBJECT: HUD COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANTS (CDBG) PROGRAM ALLOCATION AND GRANT AWARDS 2000-2001- $931,000 DEPARTMENT: Administrative Services RECOMMENDED ACTION Approve staffs recommended CDBG allocations, and grant awards, as shown below, and direct staff to include these organizations in its CDBG Annual Plan for HUD's approval. Direct staff to include in FY 2000-01 recommended budget. BACKGROUND Annually, the City receives its formula share of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Entitlement funds. For FY 2000-01, the annual allocation is estimated to be $931,000. Under HUD regulations, staff programs these funds to meet community needs for low- and moderate -income persons. Annually, non-profit organizations submit grant applications to request CDBG dollars for support. If approved, these organizations will be included in the City's CDBG Annual Plan, which is also on tonight's agenda. 1. $139,650 - Public Service, funding the organizations below to the grant recipients: Carousel Ranch $12,500 County Service Center Single Mother's Outreach $19,950 Special Olympics Sheriff STAR $18,000 Dental Health Foundation Senior Center $48,000 Samuel Dixon 2. $183,110 -Administration, monitoring, and fair housing services. 3. $608,240 - Public Improvement, for the following projectslprograms: Section 108 Debt Service $231,000 Handyworker Program Child and Family Center $ 50,000 County Services Center Affordable Housing HOME $126,240 ED $10,000 $10,000 $ 6,200 $15,000 $180,000 $ 21,000 HUD — CDBG AWARDS 2000-2001 April 25, 2000 — Page 2 The 2000-01 funding allocation from HUD is projected to be slightly down ($5,000) from the previous year, yet the number of grant applications have increased. ALTERNATIVE ACTION 1. Not accept the CDBG Funds from HUD. 2. Fund different organizations, and change funding recommendations. FISCAL IMPACT $931,000 will be included in staffs recommended FY 2000-2001 City Budget.
