SUBJECT: RESOLUTION SUPPORTING SCHOOL DISTRICT BOND —
MEASURE S
DEPARTMENT: City Council
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt resolution in support of Measure S — General Obligation Bond
Election for the William S. Hart Union High School District.
BACKGROUND
The William S. Hart High School District will place $52 million in bonds on the June
6, 2000 ballot for district approval. The bond is intended to raise funds to build and
upgrade much-needed schools, classrooms, and program facilities. The School
District recognizes that the growing student population, coupled with the age and
lack of certain facilities, makes this bond necessary. Specifically, it is proposed that
the following projects would be funded through a bond measure:
• Adding classrooms
• Building new schools
• Repairing and replacing old, deteriorated electrical and plumbing systems
• Replacing and renovating outdated science labs
• Providing up-to-date access to technology
• Repairing and replacing old, worn-out roofs
• Repairing aging heating and air conditioning systems
• Providing a safe school environment
Furthermore, the School District has the potential for attaining State funds with the
successful passage of the school bond.
As a result Councilmember Frank Ferry is proposing that the Santa Clarita City
Council officially support the bond measure.
