DATE: March 28, 2000
SUBJECT: ADDITIONAL NO -STOPPING ZONE ON DEL MONTE DRIVE
DEPARTMENT: Transportation & Engineering Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the installation of an additional no -stopping
zone on the north side of Del Monte Drive 170 to 370 feet east of Goldcrest Drive.
BACKGROUND
Traffic Engineering received several requests to install a multi -way stop at the intersection
of Del Monte Drive and Goldcrest Drive. Speed control, sight visibility, and pedestrian
safety were the nature of these requests. A study was conducted, which showed the
minimum requirements for establishing a multi -way stop sign control were not justified.
Although the request was denied, several actions were taken to enhance the safety of
motorists and pedestrians at this intersection. The Sheriff's Department provided selective
speed enforcement; shrubbery was trimmed on the northeast corner for better sight
visibility to motorists on Del Monte Drive and Goldcrest Drive; and an "intersection
symbol' warning sign was ordered to be installed for westbound Del Monte traffic in
advance of this intersection. Staff also proposed to extend the existing no -stopping zone,
located on the north side of Del Monte Drive east of Goldcrest Drive, to provide additional
visibility of oncoming cars. The additional zone will be installed from 170 to 370 feet east of
Goldcrest Drive.
The Homeowners Association has been notified and concurred with staffs recommendation
to install an additional no -stopping zone (see Exhibit "C"). Installing this additional
no -stopping zone will increase sight visibility of oncoming cars and enhance the safety of
pedestrians crossing the street at the intersection.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
Other action as determined by the City Council.

Re: Street Parking at Del Monte Drive and Goldcrest Drive
(Valencia Summit Homeowners Association)
Dear Mr. Rahman:
Thank you for your letter regarding your proposed change of street parking near the intersection of
Del Monte Drive and Goldcrest Drive in the Valencia Summit area. We appreciate your advance
notice of the consideration.
As you may know, Valencia Summit homeowners park on Del Monte Drive while utilizing two
Association recreation facilities, the pool and spa at the corner of Goldcrest and Del Monte Drives,
and the tennis courts on Del Monte Drive. The e
side of Del Monte Drive between Goldcrest an limination of the existing parking along the north
d Park View Drive will significantly reduce the
available parking for these two facilities.
That said, sh

the Board of Directors and we appreciate your efforts on the behalf of the Valencia Summit
homeowners.
Again, thank you for your letter and the spirit of cooperation in which it was sent.
Sincerely,
