BACKGROUND
This Resolution approves application for the OCJP Juvenile Accountability Grant. The
City of Santa Clarita is eligible to receive $14,748 in grant funding from the State of
California OCJP for a Juvenile Accountability Grant Program. The purpose of this funding
is to promote greater accountability of juvenile offenders in the juvenile justice system.
The allocation amount is determined by a formula based on law enforcement expenditures
and Part I Violent Crimes. In order to fulfill requirements set forth to receive funding, the
City must provide a $1,639 cash match. This grant is from April 1, 2000, to
March 31, 2001.
Funding from this grant will be used to develop and administer accountability -based
sanctions for juvenile offenders and enable juvenile courts and juvenile probation offices to
be more effective and efficient in holding juvenile offenders accountable and reducing
recidivism. This will be achieved through implementation of the Sheriff's Department Vital
Intervention Directional Alternatives Program designed to utilize proactive, innovative
techniques for positive redirection for youth.
ALTERNATIVE ACTION
Other action as determined by City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
The anticipated cost of this program is estimated to be $16,387. The grant award of
$14,748 requires a 10% match of the total program budget, which equals $1,639 and is
available in the City Council Contingency Fund.
