SUBJECT: SANTA CLARITA SPORTS COMPLEX III — PROJECT NO. F3005 —
AWARD CONTRACT FOR ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN SERVICES
DEPARTMENT: Transportation & Engineering Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council award the contract to Robinson, Takahashi, Katz & Associates (RTK) for
architectural services for Santa Clarita Sports Complex III, Project No. F3005, in an
amount not to exceed $250,000.00 and authorize a 10 percent contingency expenditure in
the amount of $25,000.00; and authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all
documents, subject to City Attorney approval.
BACKGROUND
As part of the November 1998 Parks, Recreation & Community Services Master Plan for
the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, the community identified basic recreation and
community service needs for Building No. 1. The report identified neighborhood impacts,
investigated site constraints, and determined community opportunities. The report also
studied alternative solutions for this facility and recommended actions to protect the
integrity of diverse activities while forecasting, as accurately as possible, future needs.
This project will be completed in two Phases. Phase I will provide for the design of Building
No. 1. Phase II will provide for the design of the Santa Clarita Skatepark Enhancements, a
BMX Wheel Course and Adventure Play Area. These features were identified for
development in the Santa Clarita Sports Complex Master Plan.
Staff solicited design proposals from nine different firms. Four firms submitted written
proposals to the City. Staff evaluated all proposals from the firms (see Exhibit "C") in
accordance with the requirements in the Request for Proposals. Staff determined that RTK
would best fulfill the City's needs for the project. Therefore, staff recommends awarding
the contract to RTK.
