Appropriate $57,468 to account numbers 7444 and 7411 per Attachment A. BACKGROUND The City of Santa Clarits. has received a contract extension for a Tobacco Control Services Grant from the County of Los Angeles, Department of Health Services. The extension is for $57,468 to continue community outreach and education. The goals of the funding for Tobacco Control Services are: • Facilitate policy change reducing exposure to the dangers of environmental tobacco smoke. • Provide merchants with skills and information to comply with tobacco control laws. • Provide information to the community, especially youth, regarding the risks of tobacco. The City has successfully competed for Tobacco Control Services funding annually since 1997. In the past, funding has been used to educate youth on the dangers of tobacco and environmental tobacco smoke, assist businesses to comply with the smoke-free workplace regulations, provide employee health education to businesses, and to help merchants and businesses comply with the rules established by the tobacco master settlement. ALTERNATIVE ACTION Decline grant funds. Other action as determined by City Council. As part of the contract renewal process, TCP Contract Managers will be meeting with you to negotiate the details of the upcoming contract term. TCP will again be offering $5,000.00 per agency for program development, including the creation and submission of a new action plan, budget and curriculum for the coming contract period. In addition, at the upcoming July 19, 2000 bi-monthly meeting, we will be introducing revised evaluation and monthly progress report forms to be used for the new contract term. it is mandatory that all contractors attend this very important bi-monthly meeting. I This is to inform you that the Department is implementing Paragraph 6 "Funding/Services Adjustments and Reallocation"of the above referenced agreement. The provision allows the County of Los Angeles Director of Health Services or his designee, to augment up to fifteen percent (15%) of the contract budget. rTherefore, we are augmenting your contract by $7,469 for a 15% total Maximum Obligation of $57,469 effective April 1, 2000. The additional funds will be used to advance it work to pass an ordinance in the City of Santa I Cladta to regulate smoking in parks during concerts.
