Robert Newman, Assistant City Engineer, provided information on the roadway network segments and distributed a working draft of the Project Fact Sheet on each segment and provided an updated map. Council questions and concerns: spending time and money on roads the community doesn't want of need; correlating each project with availablelobligated money; acquiring leverage to obtain funds to build roads; focusing on the roads we want and need; why Golden Valley Road and Santa Clarita Parkway are needed when they seem to go to the same place and are so close together. George Caravalho, City Manager, outlined the history related to building roads since the city's incorporation and explained the shifting priorities over the years. Staff understands Council wishes to proceed with Golden Valley Road, the Via Princessa connection and Newhall Ranch Road to Golden Valley. Staff would be happy to meet with Councilmembers on an informal basis to go over the program plan.
