Cali To Order: 5:30 P.M.
Roll Call: All Councilmembers were present. (Councilmembers Weste & Kellar
entered the meeting at 5:31 p.m.)
Flag Salute: Was led by Mayor Darcy
ITEM 1 THE REAL COST OF AIR QUALITY IN THE CITY OF SANTA
CLARITA — Ken Pulskamp, Assistant City Manager, introduced Jim Cluet
and Steve Smith, representing the South Coast Air Quality Management
District and thanked them for their attendance.
Dave Peterson, Environmental Analyst, made a presentation on the real cost
to our health, children and economy and on the air quality in the Santa
Clarita Valley.
Jim Cluet, Intergovernmental Relations Officer for Public Affairs, outlined
their program. Steve Smith reviewed their involvement in the Transit Mixed
Concrete proposal.
Council questions and concerns: how we stop pollution from the southeast;
are there Federal Government guidelines and what if we fail to meet the
standard; any suggestions for improvements by the City, regulations for fleet
vehicles; TMC issues and fugitive dust.
Mr. Cluet and Mr. Smith provided information on the issues brought up.
Mayor Darcy called for public participation.
Addressing the Council was Allan Cameron regarding a second station monitoring; Connie
Worden-Roberta regarding the fragile air basin and limited water supply; Lillian Smith
regarding the cumulative affects from projects like TMC; Jonathan Trong regarding
particulates in the air; Ashton Dodd regarding protection from dust; Elaine Dodd regarding
children with respiratory issues; an unidentified woman regarding possible chemicals that
might be used; and Dr. Marguiles regarding problems in Times Beach, Missouri.
Mayor Darcy indicated anyone interested could submit questions in writing and adjourned
the meeting at 6:52 p.m.
