HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-09-12 - RESOLUTIONS - TMC (2)RESOLUTION NO. 00-110 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA, IN OPPOSITION TO THE TRANSIT MDCED CONCRI SAND AND GRAVEL MINING PROJECT WHEREAS, Transit Mixed Concrete (TMC) proposes to excavate 83 million tons of aggregate over a 20 -year period at the headwaters of the Santa Clara River; and WHEREAS, the proposed project lies just outside the City's boundary; WHEREAS, TMC is seeking approvals from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors; and WHEREAS, the BIM has issued a Record of Decision (ROD), thus completing the federal approval process; and WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clarita has filed an appeal of the ROD on the grounds that the project will irreparably damage the environment and the health, safety and welfare of the community; and WHEREAS, the project is currently undergoing environmental assessment by the County of Los Angeles to determine the potential environmental impacts; and WHEREAS, the environmental impact analyses fail to adequately address a variety of issues, including, but not limited to, air quality, transportation, biological resources, water quality, the availability of water, as well as noise and visual impacts; and WHEREAS, the environmental documents have not fully addressed regional impacts and contain out -dated and inaccurate information. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA does resolve to take an opposing position on the proposed Transit Mixed Concrete mining proposal and recommend that the County of Los Angeles deny the proposal.
