BACK— GRoUND The goal of this project is to increase pedestrian safety and access to transit stops in the City. The scope of work consists of installing five pedestrian -actuated traffic signals where no traffic control currently exists, and installing missing sidewalk links at approximately 15 bus stops. This project is for Phase 1 of the two construction phases to be completed. On August 22, 2000, the City Council approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Caltrans for federal TEA funding. In July 2000, the MTA approved the MOU and forwarded it to Caltrans for the obligation of federal funds in the amount of $400,000.00. Caltrans reviewed the design and construction documents, and authorized to proceed with the construction phase on January 12, 2001 (Exhibit "D").
