Direct staff to execute agreements with individuals approved for funding. Approved projects have been budgeted in fiscal year 2000-01 budget in account #7413-8110. BACKGROUND For approximately 10 years, the City of Santa Clarita has provided funds for community organizations through the Community Services Grant Program. Each year, a Community Services Grant Committee is assembled to determine funding categories, review and rate applications, and make final funding recommendations. In the past, funding has been used to provide programs in the Arts, Violence Prevention, Beautification, Drug and Alcohol Prevention, and After School Programs. This year's funding categories are the Arts, Tolerance and Understanding, Beautification/ School -Based, and Literacy Programs. Forty-nine grant applications were received, with requests totaling $380,451. The breakdown per category is as follows: • Arts — 16 applications, totaling $137,468 • Tolerance and Understanding — 8 applications, totaling $71,425 • Beautification/School-Based — 14 applications, totaling $93,618 • Literacy— 11 applications, totaling $77,940 City Council approved funding for $200,000 in the 2000-01 budget to be awarded to the selected grant applicants. The maximum funding for each applicant is $10,000. As a pilot program, the Santa Clarita Resource Center provided four opportunities for the applicants to meet and network in preparation for writing the grants. As a result, the committee members commented on the improved quality of grant applications this year. "` Agenda Item: 9 ALTERNATIVE ACTION City Council not approve Community Service Grant Funding.
