SUBJECT: FISCAL YEAR 2001-2002 REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF
SIDEWALK, CURB AND GUTTER, AND ACCESS RAMP —
PROJECT NOS. M0021, M0023, AND T0015; CONCRETE
SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS FOR PEDESTRIAN ACCESS TO
BUS STOPS — PROJECT NO. T0014 - ADVERTISE FOR BIDS

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council approve the plans and specifications, and authorize the advertising for bids for
various capital improvement projects, Project Nos. M0021, M0023, T0014, and T0015.
BACKGROUND
The contracts for these projects are being combined to most efficiently use the available
funding. The general scope of work for the combined projects is to remove and replace
damaged sidewalk, curb and gutter, and access ramp improvements. This project is an
annual concrete rehabilitation program aimed at repairing existing damaged concrete pads
due to separations caused by both vertical and horizontal displacement, and concrete
uplifting due to tree root infiltration. The sidewalk repair program is intended to fix
damaged sidewalks in the Canyon Country and Saugus areas using all available funds.
The access ramp program will add new ramps and will remove and replace existing access
ramps that do not meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title 21 requirements.
The pedestrian access to bus stops improvements, Phase II (T0014), is included as part of
the annual concrete rehabilitation program. This program will install new concrete
sidewalk pads or remove and replace existing damaged sidewalks that connect to bus stops
at various locations in the City.

FISCAL IMPACT
Available funds for these projects total $330,000.00. The estimated construction cost for
these projects is $300,000.00. At this time, staff anticipates contingency funds for these
collective projects in the amount of $30,000.00, or approximately 10 percent. The actual
projects' costs and contingencies will be ascertained once all bids have been received and
opened. These funds are available in the following designated accounts:
