BACKGROUND
The State of California is now facing a severe power crisis. While searching for immediate and

While the City of Santa Clarita has always been in the forefront of energy conservation, during
this crisis the City wishes to re-emphasize and enhance its efforts. To date, the City has
enacted a variety of energy conservation measures throughout the City facilities including
installation of LED lights at 43 key intersections, heating and ventilation and lighting retrofits
throughout facilities, use of natural lighting in areas where appropriate, energy audits of
facilities, and a host of other activities.
The attached resolution, supported by the League of California Cities, was prepared with the
realization that conservation is one important element towards solving the energy crisis,
therefore, the City reaffirms its commitment by striving to reduce energy consumption by an
additional 10% beyond the levels now achieved.
