APPROPRIATION OF $80,000 FOR FACADE IMPROVEMENT

RECOMMENDED ACTION
Approve appropriation of $80,000 into account number 1900-8001 from Fund Balance.
BACKGROUND
The Santa Clarita Redevelopment Agency has adopted programs to improve the physical
appearance and economic conditions in the downtown Newhall area. The Fagade Improvement
Program and the Parking Lot Improvement Program create an avenue for property owners and
businesses to work in partnership with the Santa Clarita Redevelopment Agency to improve the
physical appearance of buildings and parking and storage areas. The fagade improvements to
the Canyon Theatre Guild, the Santa Clarita Repertory Theatre, E1 Trocadero Restaurant, as
well as 12 smaller projects, and the screening program along Railroad Avenue have created a real
momentum in downtown Newhall resulting in a waiting list for the Fagade Improvement
Program. This has been a very successful program to stimulate private investment in the area,
and the physical results are evident. With approximately $200,000 in expenditures for these
improvements, the funding approved by the City Council for facades, screening, and
improvements has been depleted. There is currently $85,000 available in approved loans to the
Santa Clarita Redevelopment Agency.

Keep program funding as is.
