INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Weste and City Councilmembers
FROM: George Caravalho, City Manager
DATE: December 4, 2001
SUBJECT: DEVELOPMENT AND LOS ANGELES COUNTY REGIONAL PLANNING
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Receive and discuss.
BACKGROUND
The City Council has expressed an interest in ensuring that the City is proactive in its
approach to development proposals processed in Los Angeles County. Over the last several
years, the City has been very involved in several key development projects. Many of these
have changed significantly because of the City's involvement. In fact, both the Los Angeles
County Department of Regional Planning and Supervisor Antonovich's office have
welcomed the City's input and comments.
In order to assist City staff in commenting on projects, staff will ask the City Council three
key questions at tonight's study session:
What kind of projects should the City be involved in?
What kind of comments should the City make?
What should the role of City staff, the Planning Commission and the City Council
be in the City's comments on County projects?
In order to facilitate the above discussion, staff will review the current process utilized to
comment on County projects. The intent of this study session is to reach agreement on the
above questions.
