Leona Cox Elementary School, in coordination with the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department, implemented a Parking Lot Valet program on October 10, 2000. On November 15, 2000, City staff was contacted by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department School Patrol Unit, requesting that a no -parking zone be established adjacent to the school. Parents who drop off their children in the morning or pick them up in the afternoon currently drive their vehicles through a designated drop-offlpick-up area in the school parking lot. The no -parking zone will provide an area where vehicles can line up prior to entering the school parking lot. City staff observed the afternoon traffic conditions along Oakmoor Street in front of the school. Staffs evaluation indicated that a no -parking zone would help to facilitate the proposed Parking Lot Valet program. There will be minimal impact to on -street parking, since the no -parking zone will only be in effect between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., school days only. On December 4, 2000, City staff received a letter (Exhibit W) from Leona Cox Elementary School confirming the request. As stated in the letter, the school is making the request, and they are in full agreement with the proposed no -parking zone.
