SUBJECT: FISCAL YEAR 2000/01— PEDESTRIAN ACCESS IMPROVEMENTS
TO BUS STOPS, PHASE I, PROJECT NO. T0014 — PROJECT
ACCEPTANCE

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council accept the work performed by L.A. Signal Inc. on the Fiscal Year 2000/01
Pedestrian Access Improvements to Bus Stops, Phase I, Project No. T0014; direct the
City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion; and direct staff to release the
10 percent retention 35 days after the Notice of Completion is recorded, provided no stop
notices, as provided by law, have been filed.
BACKGROUND
On March 13, 2001, the City Council awarded a construction contract for the Fiscal
Year 2000/01 Pedestrian Access Improvements to Bus Stops, Phase I, Project No. T0014,
STPLER 5450-017, to L.A. Signal Inc.
The goal of this project was to increase pedestrian safety and access to transit stops in the
City. The scope of work consisted of installing five pedestrian -actuated traffic signals
where no traffic control previously existed, and installing missing sidewalk links and access
ramps at the vicinity of the signal locations. This phase is one of two construction phases.
Phase II of the project is currently under the final stage of design with construction to
follow.
Phase I was completed to the satisfaction of the City Engineer on July 20, 2001. The
project was completed under the allocated budget and construction working days. The total
cost for construction was $270,440.73.

FISCAL IMPACT
The total construction cost for the project is $270,440.73. Federal Transportation
Enhancement Act (TEA) Account No. T0014801 and Local Funds Account Nos. T0014201
and T0014452 were used to track all associated construction expenditures.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN: NOTICE OF COMPLETION
The City of Santa Clarita, a municipal corporation, is the owner in fee, except for the
right-of-way upon which it has been constructed, of a certain public improvement known
as Fiscal Year 2000/01 Pedestrian Access Improvements to Bus Stops, Phase I, Project
No. T0014, STPLER 5450-017;
2. The City's address is 23920 Valencia Boulevard, Suite 300, Santa Clarita,
California 91355-2196.
3. The locations of said public improvement: Soledad Canyon Road at the intersections of
Oak Spring Canyon Road, Flowerpark Drive, and Poppy Meadow Street.
4. On March 13, 2001, a contract to construct said public improvement was awarded to
L.A. Signal Inc., 15100 East Nelson Avenue, City of Industry, California 91744.
5. Work under said contract was completed on July 20, 2001, to the satisfaction of the
City Engineer, and was accepted by the City on August 28, 2001.
