Item to be Presi
DATE: November 27, 2001
SUBJECT: RESOLUTIONS AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF GRANT
APPLICATIONS UNDER THE SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS, CLEAN
WATER, CLEAN AIR AND COASTAL PROTECTION BOND ACT OF 2000
(PROPOSITION 12)
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council adopt resolutions approving the filing of applications for local assistance funds from the
Per Capita Grant Program and the Roberti-Z'Berg-Harris Urban Open Space Program under the Safe
Neigborhood Parks, Clean Water, Clean Air, and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2000.
BACKGROUND
With the passage of Proposition 12 in the March 2000 election, California voters overwhelmingly
approved nearly $2 billion to be spent on park acquisition and development projects throughout the
State. Administered by the State Department of Parks and Recreation, these funds have recently
become available for application by cities. The funding for both of the programs are allocated to
agencies on a per capita basis, using the May 2000 Department of Finance population estimates.
In anticipation of this funding source, the following capital projects have been budgeted in the FY
2001-2002 budget:
P4004 Central Park Sports Fields and Practice Fields
P3001 Oak Spring Canyon Park
F3009 Santa Clarita Sports Complex Buildout, Aquatics Center
The State Department of Parks and Recreation's final funding allocations released last April show
the City's actual per capita and Roberti-Z'Berg-Harris program allocations to be $1,812,531. These
grant resolutions are in support of non-competitive (per capita) funding.
