HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-11-27 - AGENDA REPORTS - SAFE PARK GRANT APPLICATION (2)CONSENT CALENDAR CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT City Manager's Item to be Presi DATE: November 27, 2001 SUBJECT: RESOLUTIONS AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF GRANT APPLICATIONS UNDER THE SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS, CLEAN WATER, CLEAN AIR AND COASTAL PROTECTION BOND ACT OF 2000 (PROPOSITION 12) DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council adopt resolutions approving the filing of applications for local assistance funds from the Per Capita Grant Program and the Roberti-Z'Berg-Harris Urban Open Space Program under the Safe Neigborhood Parks, Clean Water, Clean Air, and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2000. BACKGROUND With the passage of Proposition 12 in the March 2000 election, California voters overwhelmingly approved nearly $2 billion to be spent on park acquisition and development projects throughout the State. Administered by the State Department of Parks and Recreation, these funds have recently become available for application by cities. The funding for both of the programs are allocated to agencies on a per capita basis, using the May 2000 Department of Finance population estimates. In anticipation of this funding source, the following capital projects have been budgeted in the FY 2001-2002 budget: P4004 Central Park Sports Fields and Practice Fields P3001 Oak Spring Canyon Park F3009 Santa Clarita Sports Complex Buildout, Aquatics Center The State Department of Parks and Recreation's final funding allocations released last April show the City's actual per capita and Roberti-Z'Berg-Harris program allocations to be $1,812,531. These grant resolutions are in support of non-competitive (per capita) funding. Agenda Item: ALTERNATE ACTION Other direction as a determined by City Council FISCAL IMPACT With the adoption of the attached resolutions, staff may submit grant applications for the projects indicated in accordance with the FY 2001-02 Capital Improvement Budget.
