First, we are polling the community to get a clear sense of the community's vision. Second, we will be conducting several public meetings in late March and April to bring this vision to life and to begin the process of defining guiding principles for the valley's future. We expect to have this done and adopted by the City and the County by the end of the year. Upon the completion of this groundbreaking effort, we will begin the detailed work of amending the general plan to reflect the community's vision and these guiding principles. Mayor's Committee on Managed Growth for a Quality Community - This committee consisting of 16 representative community leaders has met for several months to get organized and agree on its work program. It is first developing baseline information on a variety of issues, including schools. It will then evaluate all this information in a valleywide baseline white paper. By September of this year, the Committee is expected to make recommendations to the City Council on strategies to address growth in the Santa Clarita Valley. Sphere of Influence - The City has gained significant support from community leaders and local agencies, including the College of the Canyons, for its third attempt for a meaningful Sphere of Influence. This issues is scheduled for the April 11 th Local Agency Formation Commission and we continue to be hopeful we will receive their support, including land on the west side of Interstate 5.
