SUBJECT: LIVE OAK. SPRINGS CANYON STORM DRAIN, UNIT II, PROJECT
NO. M4002 - APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS
DEPARTMENT: Transportation & Engineering Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council approve the plans and specifications, and authorize the Los Angeles County
Department of Public Works to proceed with construction of the Live Oak Springs Canyon
Storm Drain, Unit II, Project No. M4002; authorize the City Manager or designee to execute
all documents, subject to City Attorney approval.
On March 14, 2000, the City Council approved Cooperative Agreement No. 72664 between the
City of Santa Clarita and the County of Los Angeles for construction of a storm drain along
Sand Canyon Road. The City Council also approved the plans, specifications, and estimate for
Unit I of this project, and construction is now under way. Unit II will connect with Unit I just
south of Comet Way and continue south along Sand Canyon Road to Valley Ranch Road.
The County has submitted the final plans and specifications for Unit If for City staffs review.
At this time, staff is requesting that the City Council approve this project and authorize the
County to proceed with construction.
The County will continue with the contract administration of this project, and plans to
advertise in January and award the contract in March. The project is scheduled for
construction this summer, and will require 220 working days to complete.

FISCAL IMPACT
The City's financial responsibility is to provide the reimbursement of FEMA funding to the
County. This funding amounts to $1,850,000, which represents a 75 percent participation by
FEMA. This expenditure has been budgeted in Fiscal Year 2000/2001.
