HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-05-08 - AGENDA REPORTS - VALENCIA GLEN POOL REHAB (2)CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT CONSENT CALENDAR City Manager Approval: Item to be presented DATE: May 8, 2001 SUBJECT: VALENCIA GLEN POOL REHABILITATION DEPARTMENT: Field Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council award contract to John Burgeson Contractors in the amount of $81,208 for decking and lighting, and $8,604 for the shade structure at Valencia Glen Pool, plus a 30 percent contingency. These funds have been budgeted in Fiscal Year 2000/2001 in Account No. P0003-001. Authorize City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND During the Fiscal Year 2000/2001 Capital Improvement Plan budget process, staff requested funds for repairs and upgrades to Valencia Glen Park Pool (Project Number P0003-001). On March 13, 2001, the City Council approved the plans and specifications, and authorized advertising for bids. On April 11, 2001, the following bids were received by the City Clerk's office. References have indicated that this contractor has performed work to their satisfaction. The bid of $81,208 was reviewed for accuracy and conformance to the contract documents and found to be complete. The amount of bid has enabled the City to afford the construction of a shade structure in the amount of $8,604. The 30 percent contingency is due to the fact that in past pool projects, staff has found significant electrical conduit beneath the decks that needed to Agenda Item: 3 VALENCIA GLEN POOL REHABILITATION May 8, 2001 Page 2 be replaced. In addition, staff has requested pricing on artistic design enhancement to the deck work. Should both elements be included in this project, a large amount of contingency will be required. The overall work to be completed will include the replacement of the pool deck and drain, the replacement of piping, pool deck lighting, and shade structure for an estimated project cost of $89,812, not including the contingency and enhanced deck work. ALTERNATIVE ACTION Other action as determined by Council. FISCAL IMPACT Funds for this expenditure in the amount of $150,000 have been budgeted in Fiscal Year 2000/2001 in Account No. P0003-001.
