MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Weste called to order the special meeting of the City Council at 4:12 p.m.
ROLL CALL
All Councilmembers were present.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
There was none.
CLOSED SESSION
Carl Newton, City Attorney, advised of the need to conduct a Closed Session for the
purpose of holding a:
CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL — Pending Litigation
Government Code Section64956.9 (a)
Case Name: Santa Clarita LLC v. City of Santa Clarita, et al.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Case No. BC 254794
RECESS AND RECONVENE
Mayor Weste recessed the meeting to closed session at 4:13 p.m. and reconvened the
meeting at 5:04 p.m.
CITY ATTORNEY ANNOUNCEMENT
Carl Newton, City Attorney, announced that no action was taken' in closed session
that was required to be reported.
ADJOURN
Mayor Weste adjourned the meeting at 5:05 p.m.
INVOCATION
Mayor Weste made a statement on today's events and advised that no agenda items
would be discussed tonight; following Public Participation, all . items would be
continued to a meeting next week.
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Weste called to order the regular meeting of the City Council at 6:15 p.m.
ROLL CALL
All Councilmembers were present.
FLAG SALUTE
Councilmember Kellar led the flag salute.
COUNCII.MEMBER COMMENTS
Mayor Weste welcomed Millie Jones, representing Supervisor Mike Antonovich, who
commented on the day's events.
COMMITTEE REPORTS (Council)
There were none.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Addressing the Council at this time was Kevin Hartman, Sandy Rompal, Joann
DeBartolo, Jan Kroesen, Miguel Garcia (submitted petition), and Stephen Wyatt
regarding lights at Bridgeport Park; Mark Henry Zekanis (also read letter from
Rene Veluzat), Kimberley Heilemann representing Looney Bins, and Erick Carrero
regarding the film industry. One written comment was submitted regarding lights
at Bridgeport Park.
STAFF COMMENTS
Rick Gould, Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, commented on
the lights at Bridgeport Park and the design of the Park itself. Councilmember
Darcy requested that staff meet with the community on this issue.
COUNCII.MEMBER COMMENTS
Mayor Weste requested that staff bring a report back on the film industry issue and
include the Chamber of Commerce, the film industry, and the community in their
research.
Council consensus to authorize the Mayor to sign a letter supporting
SB -196 that will authorize bond funding for parks and recreation in
California.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Smyth, second by Darcy, to adjourn the meeting at 6:40
p.m. to an adjourned regular meeting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday,
September 18, 2001 in the Council Chamber.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
FUTURE MEETINGS
The next regular meeting of the City Council will be held Tuesday, September 25,
2001 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 1" floor of City Hall, 23920 Valencia
Blvd., Santa Clarita, CA.
