HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-02-28 - MINUTES - SPECIAL JOINT MTG (2)a RUNUTES OF SPECIAL JOINT MEETING SANTA CLARITA CITY COUNCIL SANTA CLARITA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES 5:30 P.5L FEBRUARY 28, 2001 CALL TO ORDER Mayor Weste called to order the special meeting of the City Council at 5:35 p.m. in the Art Gallery, Room M-108, of College of the Canyons, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Santa Clarita, CA ROLL CALL A quorum of the City Council was present; absent was Councilmember Darcy. A quorum of the Board of Trustees was present. FLAG SALUTE Chris Acuna, student member of the Governing Board, led the flag salute. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS r Board President Michele Jenkins and Mayor Weste offered opening comments. All those in attendance introduced themselves. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA Motion by Weste, second by Smyth to approve the agenda Hearing no objections, it was so ordered. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION There was none. ITEM 2.1 REVIEW OF PARTNERSHIPSISHARED EFFORTS Dianne Van Hook, Superintendent, and George Caravalho, City Manager, reviewed the District's and City's cooperative ventures and partnerships. Additional comments were offered by Councilmembers and Boardmembers. ITEM 2.2 UPDATE ON SANTA CLARITA VALLEY'S GROWTH Jeff Lambert, Director of Planning & Building Services, made a presentation on the growth in the Santa Clarita Valley and 3 strategies the City is utilizing: the Sphere of Influence, the Mayor's Committee on Managed Growth, and the joint City/County General Plan. ITEM 2.3 UPDATE ON COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS' GROWTH, STUDENT & FACILITY DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLICATIONS FOR THE FUTURE Dianne Van Hook, Superintendent, made a presentation on the College's growth including the Facilities Master Plan. The Board and Council commented on working together for mutual interests and expressed interest in meeting more often.
