MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING
CITY COUNCIL ANNUAL MEETING WITH
SUPERVISOR MICHAEL D. ANTONOVICH
MAY 31, 2001
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Weste called the meeting to order at 8:20 a.m. in the Century Room.
ROLL CALL
All Councilmembers were present.
FLAG SALUTE
Mayor Pro Tem Ferry led the salute to the flag.
WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS
Mayor Weste welcomed all in attendance. Representatives of the City and County
introduced themselves.
ISSUES FOR DISCUSSION
Each Councilmember commented on a particular topic as follows:

Councilmember Smyth - Open Space Acquisition/Preservation, including partnerships
with the County for Whitney and Elsmere Canyons.
Councilmember Kellar and Mayor Waste - Transit Mixed Concrete and issues the City
has been working on in preparation for the Board of Supervisors hearing on June 26,
2001, including the rail haul route, importing potable water, and preserving ridgelines.
Councilmember Ferry - Update on Joint City/County General Plan and the upcoming
Education Summit.
Councilmember Kellar - Valley -wide facilities and services including the Henry Mayo
Newhall Memorial Hospital. Roger Siever, CEO of the Hospital, provided a report.
Mayor Weste - Sand Canyon flood control project.
Councilmember Ferry - MTA projects and funding.
Councilmember Darcy - Elsmere Canyon and support for the gateway to the Old Road as
a historical landmark.
Supervisor Antonovich, County Staff and City Staff provided comments as appropriate.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Addressing the Council and Supervisor at this time was Annette Lucas regarding the
Calgrove off -ramp from the I-5 not being maximized and Bill Wittenberg regarding school
sites and fire station sites.
ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Weste adjourned the special meeting of the City Council at 9:40 a.m.
