All Parks & Recreation Commissioners were present. Flag Salute: Was led by Councilmember Ferry Item 1 BUDGET ISSUES Rick Gould, Director of Parks, Recreation & Community Services, provided an overview of the Aquatics Center and introduced Bob Mueting of RJM Designs who presented schematic exhibits of various designs and corresponding costs for the center. Council/Commission discussion and concerns: eliminating option C since it would mean no gym; developing a parking management plan; not giving up gym space to get something else; needing all the space for all the uses now; possible phasing on option E; the gym perhaps not being in the right place and the possibility of moving it to Central Park or to another spot; getting the recreation pool open ASAP to start generating revenue; looking for a really great design; needing more land; not losing anything the public now has; phasing to get the best facility; not scrunching the buildings; creating a destination point; not liking a tunnel for access to/from parking; looking at the adjacent 38 acre parcel for parking; desperately needing sports fields; not holding up the process but coming up with more innovative ways; if done in phases, concerned that there may not be money in the budget for all phases; making every effort to get adjacent property; coming back with another option for a combined site; not delaying the aquatics center. Mayor Weste called for general Public Participation. Stephanie Weiss presented a funding proposal from the Historical Society; Brian Roney endorsed option C and urged that the project not be stalled; Ullia Gucciardi encouraged making the complex larger. Mayor Weste indicated another meeting would need to be scheduled to discuss fees and programs. Mayor Weste adjourned the meeting at 6:56 p.m. V Sharon L. Dawson, CMC, City Clerk min\01Apr5itss
