All Parks & Recreation Commissioners were present with the exception of Commissioners Wooten and Nelson. Flag Salute: Was led by Councilmember Smyth. Item 1 FOLLOW-UP TO JOINT MEETING REGARDING BUDGET ISSUES On behalf of the Commission, Duane Harte presented the Commission's preferences, including the Aquatics Center not taking a back seat to acquiring the 38 acres and razing Building 3 as shown in design Option E. Suggestion was made that the project should be done right and not take an existing situation and make it worse. In the interim, lease space could be utilized to serve those currently using the gymnasium. Commissioners indicated the 38 acres would be welcome support to the Center and could provide additional parking, fields, and/or open space according to the Master Plan. The 38 acres should be kept separate and services should not be cut to buy the property. Council discussion and concerns: ensuring enough space for the public in the buildings/pool area, shading and on-site parking; the cost for the Center; minimizing down time for lost court space; being comfortable with all aspects of the site. Mayor Weste called for general Public Participation. Steve Twiliger spoke in support of the Aquatics Center. Mayor Weste adjourned the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sharon L. Dawson, CMC, City Clerk min\01J=7jtss
