A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA SUPPORTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF THE HISTORICAL VETERANS MEMORIAL PLAZA
LOCATED AT MARKET STREET AND NEWHALL AVENUE,
IN THE HISTORIC DOWNTOWN NEWHALL DISTRICT
OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, Through the efforts of the City of Santa Clarita (City), the Historical
Veterans Memorial Committee (HVMC) and State Assemblyman George Runner, on
August 28, 2000, the City of Santa Clarita received a $250,000 grant from the State
General Fund for the Veterans Memorial Project; and
WHEREAS, On December 12, 2000, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita
authorized the purchase of the property located at Market Street and Newhall Avenue in
the Historic Downtown Newhall District of the City, for the Veterans Memorial project; and
WHEREAS, On December 14, 2000, the City Manager approved the purchase
agreement transferring ownership of the property to the City; and
WHEREAS, The Plaza will include a memorial feature honoring veterans of the
armed services; and
WHEREAS, The City wishes to support the efforts of the HVMC in their efforts to
seek funding opportunities to develop the Veterans Memorial feature; and
WHEREAS, The HVMC has submitted proof of its tax-exempt status under Federal
Internal Revenue Service Tax I.D. #95-4342988, and these documents establish reporting
requirements for the HVMC to maintain its status as a non-profit entity; and
WHEREAS, The City has prepared Project Guidelines which outlines the roles and
responsibilities of the City and the HVMC, and the HVMC has accepted said Project
Guidelines;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA
does resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. Direct the City Manager, or his designee, to coordinate the efforts of
the HVMC and other interested members of the community to prepare a master plan for
the development of the Veterans Memorial Plaza; and
SECTION 2. Support the Historical Veterans Memorial Committee in their efforts,
and grant permission to use the City seal in fundraising.
