SUBJECT: INSTALLATION OF BATTERY BACK-UP POWER FOR TRAFFIC
SIGNALS ATVARIOUS LOCATIONS, PROJECT NO. C0017 —PROJECT

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council accept the work performed by L.A. Signal, Incorporated on the installation of
battery back-up systems for traffic signals at various locations, Project No. COO 17; direct the
City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion; and direct staff to release the 10 percent
retention 35 days after the Notice of Completion is recorded, provided no stop notices, as
provided by law, have been filed.
BACKGROUND
The purpose of this battery back-up system is to energize traffic lights equipped with Light -
Emitting Diode (LED) signals to maintain operation during any unanticipated power outage.
On May 8, 2001, the City Council approved the construction award for the installation of
battery back-up systems for traffic signals at various locations to L.A. Signal, Incorporated. A
total of 15 intersections were upgraded with battery back-up systems. The work was completed
April 29, 2002 and was within the approved budget.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
The total cost of this project was $84,400.00 and was within approved budget.
