SUBJECT: BUS SERVICE CONTRACTS FOR DAY CAMPS AND
TEEN TRAVEL CLUB
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award contract to Laidlaw Education Services in the amount of $49,167 for fiscal year
2002-2003 for bus services for Day Camp and Teen Travel Club, contingent on adoption of
2002-2003 budget. Authorize the City Manager, or designee, to sign all documents, subject
to City Attorney approval.
BACKGROUND
The City of Santa Clarita's Day Camp and Teen Travel Club provide children the
opportunity to explore various attractions throughout Southern California. Weekly trips
for day campers and daily trips for the teens are an integral part of their camp experience.
Buses are required to transport participants safely to and from their field trip destination.
Staff conducted a formal bid process to procure bus service, and received five bids. Out of
those responses Laidlaw Education Services was the lowest responsible bidder.
Their proposed cost is $49,167. The following bids were received:
• Laidlaw Education Service - $49,167
• Antelope Valley Bus - $63,769
• Brookline - $75,000
• Durham School Services - $83,275
• Student Transportation of America - Non -Responsive
ALTERNATIVE ACTION
Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding for this program in the amount of $49,167 plus a 10% contingency of $4,916 is
included in the proposed fiscal year 2002-2003 budget in accounts 7291-8110 and 7292-
