SUBJECT: FISCAL YEAR 2001/2002 — PEDESTRIAN ACCESS IMPROVEMENTS
TO BUS STOPS, PHASE II, PROJECT NO. T0014, STPLER 5450-017 —
PROJECT ACCEPTANCE

RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council accept the work performed by Taft Electric Company on the Fiscal
Year 2001/2002 Pedestrian Access Improvements to Bus Stops, Phase II, Project No. T0014;
direct the City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion; and direct staff to release
the 10 percent retention 35 days after the Notice of Completion is recorded, provided no
stop notices, as provided by law, have been filed.
BACKGROUND
On January 22, 2002, the City Council awarded the construction contract for the
Fiscal Year 2001/2002 Pedestrian Access Improvements to Bus Stops, Phase II, Project
No. T0014, STPLER 5450-017, to Taft Electric Company.
The goal of this project was to increase pedestrian safety and access to transit stops
Citywide. The scope of work for Phase II consisted of the installation of two pedestrian -
actuated traffic signals on Soledad Canyon Road at Rue Entree and Canyon Country Park
Entrance. This project also included the installation of a traffic interconnect cable on
Soledad Canyon Road from Shadow Pines Boulevard to Sand Canyon Road, and Soledad
Canyon Road from Galeton Road to Anne Freda Street. Finally, this project facilitated the
Citywide repair and replacement of concrete sidewalks en route to various bus stops.
Phase II was completed to the satisfaction of the City Engineer on August 6, 2002. The
project was completed under the allocated budget and construction working days. The total
cost for construction was $489,057.01.

FISCAL IMPACT
The total construction cost for the project was $489,057.01. Federal Transportation
Enhancement Act (TEA) Account No. T0014801 and Local Funds Account Nos. T0014001,
T0014205, and T0014452 were used to track all associated construction expenditures.
