DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services RECOMMENDED ACTION 1. City Council approve Community Services Grant Committee's Project Recommendation List for fiscal year 2001-02 in an amount not to exceed $100,000. 2. Direct staff to execute agreements approved for funding. Approved projects have been budgeted in fiscal year 2001-02 budget in account number: 7413-8110. BACKGROUND For approximately 11 years, the City of Santa Clarita has provided funds for community organizations through the Community Services Grant Program. Each year, a Community Services Grant Committee is assembled to determine funding categories, review and rate applications, and make final funding recommendations. In the past, funding has been used to provide programs in the Arts, Violence Prevention, Beautification, Drug and Alcohol Prevention, Literacy, and After School Programs. This year's funding categories are the Arts, Tolerance and Diversity, and Junior High and High School Off -Hour Programs. Thirty-nine grant applications were received, with requests totaling $178,956.10. The breakdown per category is as follows: Arts — 18 applications, totaling $91,754.00 Tolerance and Diversity — 9 applications, totaling $37,622.10 Junior High and High School Off -Hour Programs — 12 applications, totaling $49,580.00 City Council approved funding for $100,000 in the 2001-02 budget to be awarded to the selected grant applicants. The maximum funding for each applicant is $5,000. Twenty-two applications will be funded for the total amount of $97,970.10 (see Attachment A). Similar to last year, the Santa Clarita Resource Center provided four opportunities for the applicants to meet and network in preparation for writing the grants. Agenda item: ALTERNATIVE ACTION 1. City Council not approve Community Service Grant Funding. 2. Other action as determined by City Council, FISCAL IMPACT City Council approved funds from the 2001-02 budget, not to exceed $100,000, from account number: 7413-8110.
