BACKGROUND The City of Santa Clarita lies within the consolidated fire protection district of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The County Fire Department is the primary agency tasked with maintaining and operating fire protection for the Santa Clarita Valley, and site selection and approval for fire stations within the City. In November 2001, a concerned citizen testified before the City Council seeking input on existing and proposed fire stations in the Santa Clarita Valley. Per the direction of the City Council at the November 13, 2001 meeting, the Los Angeles County Fire Department has prepared a written report highlighting proposed fire station locations for the Santa Clarita Valley. At present, the Fire Department is engaged in the construction of three stations. Six additional stations are proposed with completion anticipated by the year 2007. Incorporated as Attachment "A" to this report is a matrix outlining the status and location of the nine aforementioned fire stations designed to service the Santa Clarita Valley. Funding for fire stations throughout Los Angeles County can occur in a variety of ways. One such way utilized by various municipalities in the County is the Developer Fee Program. In the City of Santa Clarita, the current developer fee is $0.1997 per sq. ft, which is updated annually. A product from the Developer Fee Program is the creation of a Developer Fee Detailed Fire Station Plan ("plan") which provides information on fire station facilities based upon growth projections and contacts by the Consolidated Fire Protection District. RECEIVED'`': agenda item: oZ F t; :1 Uw The "plan" and the development economic environment of specific areas are reviewed annually by the Fire District for modifications and updates as necessary. Incorporated as Attachment B to this report is the Developer Fee Detailed Fire Station Plan identifying 17 fire stations, 2 temporary facilities, the expansion of an existing fire station, and the necessary capital equipment that will be required through 2007-05 in the areas of benefit, as well as the anticipated costs and time frames provided that development occurs as expected. FISCAL IMPACT No fiscal impacts are identified as a result of this report.
