HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-03-12 - AGENDA REPORTS - SOLID WASTE HAULER UPDATE (2)CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT UNFINISHED BUSINESS City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: Cameron Smith DATE: March 12, 2002 SUBJECT: SOLID WASTE HAULER AUDIT REPORT DEPARTMENT: City Council RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council receive and file Phase I report by the Solid Waste Audit Subcommittee. On October 2, 2001, the City Council awarded a contract to Ernst & Young to conduct an audit of the solid waste franchise in the City. The City Council also requested that at each Council meeting there be an update so that the Council may provide input and direction for the audit. As a result of the above action, Ernst & Young has spent the last four months completing the first phase of their audit of the City's solid waste franchises. Tonight, the subcommittee and consultants from Ernst & Young will be making a presentation to the City Council on behalf of the Solid Waste Audit Subcommittee. The report will summarize findings, as requested by the City Council defined scope of work. ALTERNATIVE ACTION 1. Council may direct the auditors to conduct further inquiry into the solid waste franchise before returning with a final Phase I report. 2. Other action as determined by Council. FISCAL IMPACT The budget for this project is $100,000 for audit work and $1,000 for mileage and parking charges. Additionally, $25,000 was budgeted for legal services to be provided by Burke, Williams, and Sorensen. To date, the project is within budget. Currently, $90,946 has been spent on the audit work and mileage/parking. In addition, $14,381 has been spent on legal fees associated with this project. Anticipated expenditure for the month of February is estimated to be $12,000 for both the audit and legal services. Further work may require additional funds to be allocated. ATTACHMENTS None.
