ITEM 1 UPDATE ON CITY'S CABLE RENEWAL PROCESS AND
RECOMMENDED RENEWAL OBJECTIVES — Ken Pulskamp, Interim City
Manager presented the Council with a brief introduction of this item and turned
the presentation over to the Director of Administration Services, Steve Stark
who presented Council with information regarding the renewal process; cable
history; renewal objectives.
Council questions, concerns and comments included: Emergencies;
importance of cable in the schools; importance of a lifeline that interconnects
with everything such as: libraries; sheriffs; schools; newspapers. Concerns with
the Federal Guidelines; rates; importance of a local cable complaint department;
hold companies accountable to issues; customer service accountability; channel
20 should be channel 8; educational programming; history channel; hard wiring
of schools; school boards should have the option of having their meetings
televised; City should have its own live mobile control of programming; programs
should air at the same time each week; importance of support base and desire to
have someone on board who is driven to get the job done; billing is inconsistent.
Speaking during public participation on this issue were: Mark Winger, Alan
Cameron, Mike Mazzetti, Steve Sawyer.
Mayor Ferry adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.
