A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OE THE CITY OF
SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA, IN SUPPORT OF MEASURE E,
A BOND MEASURE PROPOSED BY THE
SAUGUS UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clarita supports the commitment of the Saugus Union
School District to provide excellence in elementary education for all students; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Clarita recognizes the Saugus Union School District
for its accomplishments and the outstanding level of education it provides as demonstrated
by 11 schools having received the "California Distinguished School Award" and 3 schools
having received the "National Blue Ribbon School Award"; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita is proud of the Saugus
Union School District, a K-6 District that continues to provide high quality educational
programa for its students as they transition to the junior high, high school and higher levels
of education; and
WHEREAS, the Governing Board and staff of the Saugus Union School District are
committed to maintaining excellent educational facilities, improving the environment of
r each school and maximizing local tax dollars through State matching funds; and
!f WHEREAS, the Saugus Union School District, during the past eight years, has
experienced an average enrollment growth of approximately 5.2 percent, or 400 students
annually, and is continuing to experience significant growth; and
WHEREAS, the current design capacity of the Saugus Union School District is 7,850
seats with an anticipated enrollment of approximately 11,709 students by 2008; and
WHEREAS, the Saugus Union School District has adopted a ten-year Facility
Master Plan identifying the District's facility needs for new construction, renovation,
upgrades in safety and security, improvements to the technology infrastructure and site-
specific projects; and
WHEREAS, the Governing Board of the Saugus Union School District has approved
a resolution supporting a General Obligation Bond campaign, Measure E, that would fund
the construction of two new schools, renovate four existing facilities, increase safety and
security and expand technology at all sites.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita supports and
endorses the Saugus Union School District General Bond Obligation initiative, Measure E,
which will be placed on the June 4, 2002 ballot.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 28' day of May, 2002.
