DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council approve Community Services Grant Committee's Project Recommendation List for Fiscal Year 2002-03 in an amount not to exceed $100,000, and direct staff to execute agreements approved for funding. Authorize City Manager, or designee, to sign all documents subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND For approximately 12 years, the City of Santa Clarita has provided funds for community organizations through the Community Services Grant Program. Each year, a Community Services Grant Committee is assembled to determine funding categories, review and rate applications, and make final funding recommendations. In the past, funding has been used to provide programs in the Arts, Violence Prevention, Beautification, Drug and Alcohol Prevention, Literacy, and After School Programs. This year's funding categories are: • Arts • Education Programs - Tolerance - Traffic Safety - Environment - General Forty-six grant applications were received, with requests totaling $218,061.80. The breakdown per category is as follows: • Arts: 25 applications, totaling $120,423.00 • Education Programs — Environmental: 4 applications, totaling $18,405.60 • Education Programs — General: 4 applications, totaling $19,713.20 • Education Programs — Tolerance: 11 applications, totaling $49,520.00 • Education Programs — Traffic: 2 applications, totaling $10,000.00 Item I Agenda City Council approved funding for $100,000 in the 2002-03 budget to be awarded to the selected grant applicants. The maximum funding for each applicant is $5,000. Twenty-four applications will be funded for the total amount of $100,000 (see Attachment A). Similar to last year, the Santa Clarita Resource Center provided four opportunities for the applicants to meet and network in preparation for writing the grants. ALTERNATIVE ACTION 1. City Council not approve Community Service Grant Funding. 2. Other action as determined by City Council. FISCAL IMPACT Funds in the amount of $100,000 have been budgeted and are available in the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department account number 7413-5110.
