City Council to receive verbal report from the City's federal legislative advocates.
BACKGROUND
The City of Santa Clarita retains the services of John H. Montgomery and John R. O'Donnell for
federal legislative advocacy in Washington, D.C. Mr. Montgomery and Mr. O'Donnell are in the
first year of a two-year contract, concurrent with the term of the 108th Congress. Mr. O'Donnell
will be providing a verbal report to the City Council regarding activities undertaken by the firm
on behalf of the City of Santa Clarita, during the current contract period.
Highlights of federal activities which Mr. O'Donnell will discuss include a pending
Congressional appropriations request for the Cross Valley Connector, a pending appropriations
request for the Feasibility Phase of the Santa Clara River Reconnaissance Study, Department of
Defense authorization legislation which originally sought to exempt certain federal contractors
from responsibility for perchlorate clean-up, federal budget issues, and Workforce Investment
Act reauthorization.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
1. Do not receive a verbal report from federal advocates.
2. Other action as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no additional fiscal impact to the City of Santa Clarita, as the costs associated with this
agenda item are contained within the Citys adopted FY 2003/04 budget.
