M0040, M0041, AND T0020 — PROJECT ACCEPTANCE DEPARTMENT: Transportation and Engineering Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council accept the completion of the construction contract performed by Kalban, Inc. for the Fiscal Year 2003-04 Annual Concrete Rehabilitation Program for removal and replacement of sidewalk, curb and gutter, driveway approaches, and access ramps, Project Nos. M0040, M0041, and T0020; direct the City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion; and direct staff to release the retention 35 days after the Notice of Completion is recorded, provided no stop notices have been filed, as provided by law. BACKGROUND On August 26, 2003, the City Council awarded the construction contract in the amount of $231,600.00 for the Fiscal Year 2003-04 Annual Concrete Rehabilitation Program, Project Nos. M0040, M0041, and T0020, to Kalban, Inc. The purpose of this project was to improve the Citywide sidewalk and drainage system by removing and replacing the existing damaged concrete sidewalks and curb and gutters due to separations caused by uplifting due to tree root infiltration. The contracts for these projects (M0040, M0041, and T0020) were combined to most efficiently use the available funding. By combining these projects, the City was able to remove and replace 14,700 square feet of sidewalk and driveway approaches, and 4,840 linear feet of curb and gutter. In addition to the aforementioned scope of work, 16 new access ramps were installed at intersections where there were none before. The construction contract was completed to the satisfaction of the City Engineer on November 24, 2003. The project was completed under the allocated budget and construction working days. The total cost for construction was $248,665.70. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT An amount of $250,000.00 was approved and budgeted in Account Nos. M0040201, M0041456, and T0020201 for Fiscal Year 2003-04. The total cost for construction was $248,665.70.
