The funds were appropriated in a previous fiscal year in Account No. 2314-8110. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND This contract is to complete the last phase of a multi -phase Geographic Information Systems project coordinated between the Environmental Services Division and the Technology Services Division. When this last phase is completed, the City will have an accurate map, descriptions of, and a tracking method for the entire 546 street -miles of the Santa Clarita storm drain system. The completion of this project will help provide storm drain maintenance support, assistance in investigations, and provide tools to support storm drain transfer process (a major obstacle for local developers). The project completes work left unfinished from previous contractors in previous fiscal years. Applied Geodetics, the contractor on the project, has completed most of the tasks on the project to date. As this project required multiple phases and required a unique bank of skills, staff worked with their existing GIS contractor, Applied Geodetics. The contractor has a long history working with GIS and has demonstrated the distinct skill base in order to accomplish the necessary phases. Applied Geodetics has a unique foundation of knowledge and contacts that allowed this work to be completed in the most efficient and professional manner. Each previous phase that was completed by the contractor had resulted in exemplary, timely work. This final phase will tie all the information collected together. Previous work by Applied Geodetics included: • Global Positioning System (GPS) field data collection of surface features, • Comparison of that data with existing, inaccurate information, • Collecting maps and plans from Los Angeles County, • Digitizing that information, and • Developing a data Manuscript. In the final phase, the contractor will draft the storm drain system and enter description information collected using the previously complete Manuscript and the GPS collected point data. The City will provide all source materials, such as maps and drawings of the storm drain system. The contractor will provide the finished product in electronic format in Microsoft Access 2000 and ESRI ArcView 3.2A. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS No alternative action identified by staff. FISCAL IMPACT The Applied Geodetics contract is for $74,500. These are previously encumbered funds from the Storm Water Utility Fund.
