COMPLETION
DEPARTMENT: Field Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council award contract to Applied Geodetics for $74,500. The funds were appropriated
in a previous fiscal year in Account No. 2314-8110. Authorize the City Manager or designee
to execute all documents, subject to City Attorney approval.
BACKGROUND
This contract is to complete the last phase of a multi -phase Geographic Information Systems
project coordinated between the Environmental Services Division and the Technology
Services Division. When this last phase is completed, the City will have an accurate map,
descriptions of, and a tracking method for the entire 546 street -miles of the Santa
Clarita storm drain system. The completion of this project will help provide storm drain
maintenance support, assistance in investigations, and provide tools to support storm drain
transfer process (a major obstacle for local developers). The project completes work left
unfinished from previous contractors in previous fiscal years.
Applied Geodetics, the contractor on the project, has completed most of the tasks on the
project to date. As this project required multiple phases and required a unique bank of skills,
staff worked with their existing GIS contractor, Applied Geodetics. The contractor has a long
history working with GIS and has demonstrated the distinct skill base in order to accomplish
the necessary phases. Applied Geodetics has a unique foundation of knowledge and contacts
that allowed this work to be completed in the most efficient and professional manner. Each
previous phase that was completed by the contractor had resulted in exemplary, timely work.
This final phase will tie all the information collected together. The project provides an
accurate description and location of the storm drain system in the City.

This final phase will tie all the information collected together. The project provides an
accurate description and location of the storm drain system in the City. Previous work by

• Comparison of that data with existing, inaccurate information,
• Collecting maps and plans from Los Angeles County,
• Digitizing that information, and
• Developing a data Manuscript.
In the final phase, the contractor will draft the storm drain system and enter description
information collected using the previously complete Manuscript and the GPS collected point
data. The City will provide all source materials, such as maps and drawings of the storm
drain system. The contractor will provide the finished product in electronic format in
Microsoft Access 2000 and ESRI ArcView 3.2A.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
