HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-06-24 - AGENDA REPORTS - LACO ANIMAL CONTROL SERVICES (2)Agenda Item: 1— CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT CONSENT CALENDAR City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: Ruben Barrera DATE: June 24, 2003 SUBJECT: CONTRACT RENEWAL FOR ANIMAL CONTROL SERVICES BY LA COUNTY DEPARTMENT: Planning and Building Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council approve the renewal of Animal Control Services contract with Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control and authorize the City Manager or his designee to sign all documentation subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND This item is for renewal of the City's contract with Los Angeles County for animal control services. The current contract expires June 30, 2003. The proposed renewal is for a five year term to expire on June 30, 2008. The City has contracted with the County for providing these services since incorporation. Services include the enforcement of State statutes and City ordinances pertaining to animal control, such as holding or impounding dogs and cats, disposing of dead animals and similar services. These services are administered at the Los Angeles County Animal Shelter in Castaic and provided on a 24-hour, 7 -days -a -week basis. The City does not have the facilities or staff to offer animal control services directly to the public at this time. Therefore it is most cost effective for the City to renew the contract with the County. If approved, the proposed contract will be administered by the Building and Safety Division. FISCAL IMPACT The City has allocated funds for these services in the proposed City Operating budget for fiscal year 2003-2004 for $80,000 from account number 3720 8011.
